Two steps forward, one step back…
… Sort of. We’re now really close to the release of version 2.1.4, which has taken way, way too much time, sorry about that. There’s just too much work going on. And we’re stepping back because, although it would have been really nice, it was something fairly requested, version 2.1.4 will not include any real sorting option for the Grid anymore. A total contradiction of what I was saying last month, and here’s why.
The Grid is really a nice feature, but was poorly implemented. It currently relies on URLs to generate content, which was a completely stupid thing from the start. It causes a lot of issues and is a pain to maintain. No way I’m adding more trouble by adding features relying on that concept. The Grid will still be configurable using the Shortcode and the few options the Settings panel offers, but no frontend sorting yet. I’ll implement this in version 2.1.5, with a completely rewritten grid, using Backbone. I’ve already said this, but Backbone is just awesome. Powering the Grid with JavaScript will open a huge range of possibilities: really extendable/interactive sorting features, infinite scroll support, auto-complete searching, seem-less appearance modification (switch between list, grid and extended views without reloading the page), real support for multiple grids in the same page, support for Grids in Posts (something not possible right now, causing URL issues), …
This Grid-thing is the main cause of the delay for 2.1.4 release. I tried a lot of things to improve the way the Grid should work, but it seems like every new attempt is only leading to more bugs and problems. I believe version 2.1.5 will be a much nicer, welcomed version to develop, release and use!
Is there an estimated release date of 2.1.5? My users are really missing the sorting options. Thanks!!

its been close to 6 months since last update, you guys gave up on it?
Hey Mike,
Absolutely not, it’s just been really busy months since the last update. I actually took almost a year off to work on this plugin, but it doesn’t pay the bills, nor does it keep the fridge filled, so I just had to take some contracts to keep me running 🙂 Hopefully it’ll start to get better now. I’m not planning in dropping that project any soon, anyways 😉
We’re using this great plugin for our website: http://www.dropoutcinema.org
Perhaps we are (in the near future) able to pay a bill for you, Charlie! (We are a non-profit film distributor (theatrical) in Germany))
